My Story Is Really a Story About Starting Again
I'm originally from Romania, and moving to the United States meant starting over in more ways than I expected.
A new country. A new language. A different culture. Different systems. A new professional life. And a lot of moments when I simply didn't know what I was supposed to do next.
When I first arrived, my English was very limited. Things that seemed simple to everyone around me could feel complicated to me. I had questions about everything — work, documents, credit, driving, healthcare, taxes, and even ordinary everyday life.
So, I learned.
Sometimes I learned by studying. Sometimes by asking questions. And many times, I learned by making mistakes and trying again.
Little by little, the unfamiliar became familiar.
And somewhere along the way, I realized something that has stayed with me:
Starting over doesn't mean starting from nothing.
You bring everything you've already lived, learned, survived, loved, and become with you.
You may be beginning a new chapter, but you are not beginning as a new person.
Building a New Life
Starting over professionally was another part of my journey.
I had built a career in accounting in Romania, but moving to another country meant learning again — a different language, different rules, different systems, and a different workplace culture.
My first opportunity in America was just that: a first step.
I kept working. I kept learning. I rebuilt my accounting career, became an Enrolled Agent, and helped build a tax business where I can now use what I've learned to help others.
None of it happened overnight.
And that's something I want anyone starting again to remember.
Your first job doesn't define your future.
Your English today doesn't define the English you'll speak tomorrow.
Where you are today doesn't decide where you can be five years from now.
Keep learning. Keep improving. Keep believing that another step is possible.
You don't need to see the entire road.
Sometimes you only need enough courage to take the next step.
Why I Created Making America Home
When I moved to America, I had hundreds of questions.
I searched online. I asked people. I figured things out as I went. I made mistakes. And many times, I thought:
“Why didn't anyone tell me this?”
That's one of the reasons I created Making America Home.
I want to share the practical things I've learned, the experiences I've had, the things that surprised me, and the lessons I wish someone had shared with me when I was starting.
But Making America Home isn't only about immigration paperwork.
It's about building a life.
It's learning how a new country works while keeping the beautiful parts of where you came from.
It's finding work, becoming independent, managing money, understanding everyday life, discovering new places, laughing at cultural differences, making mistakes, creating memories, and slowly realizing:
This place doesn't feel quite so foreign anymore.
And I'm still discovering America myself.
There are new places I want to see, things I still don't understand, adventures waiting for me, and probably plenty more moments when I'll think, “Wait... you do WHAT in America?” 😂
I'll share those too.
Because making America home isn't a destination.
It's a journey.
More Than Making America Home
Long before I created Making America Home, I created Easy-Together around something else that changed my life: mindfulness and personal growth.
That part of me hasn't disappeared.
Because I've learned that you can change countries, find a job, earn more money, accomplish goals, and check every box on your list — and still forget to actually live.
I believe our lives can change when we become more conscious of how we're living them.
Not because everything suddenly becomes easy.
But because we can learn to be present for the life we have while continuing to create the life we want.
So, this space will always have room for mindfulness, encouragement, laughter, nature, travel, new beginnings, difficult days, beautiful days, and reminders to enjoy the journey while we're living it.
Whether you're starting over in America, rebuilding a career, beginning something at 20 or 50, recovering from a difficult chapter, chasing a dream, or simply realizing that you want more from your life...
I hope something you find here reminds you that your story is still being written.
You don't have to become someone else.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
And you don't have to wait until life is perfect before you start enjoying it.
Keep your roots.
Allow yourself to grow new ones.
Learn. Explore. Change. Begin again when you need to.
But most of all...
Live.
